March 2012
We’re at Stand S1660, and we will be doing demos daily at 11am and 1pm.
Do come and say hello to the Clayworks team – Adam, Katy and Chris.
Later this month, we’ll also be represented at The National Homebuilding and Renovating Show, March 29-April 1, at the NEC, Birmingham (0844 581 1375). £10 in advance or £15 on the door.
This week’s Sunday Telegraph tells the story of Clayworks and our position at the centre of what we call “new old” building materials.
“The interesting thing is that owners of old houses come to us, but people who live in completely modern houses come as well,” says Adam. “They want a softer, rounded finish with a slight polish, something which is nice to run your hands over. It is a method which has been used for 5,000 years. It is toxin-free, healthy and breathable.”

We think the majesty of natural building materials is demonstrated through the variety of buildings that they inhabit. Natural materials look both forward and back in time.
Carpenter Oak, designers of timber architecture, have installed at projects, from Windsor Castle to the Great Hall at Stirling Castle, to a Buddhist Temple.
We shall be sharing a space at the Homebuilding and Renovating show in Birmingham, March 28- April 1
Come and see (both of) us.

Nando’s restaurants have been great in sending us more photos of our clay plaster in their Hull restaurant, recently reopened.
Clayworks were published in the Thursday supplement of the This is Devon, for more details on the project.

March and April are busy periods on the road with a flurry of high profile trade shows. Natural building materials are still in relatively rare supply in the UK – their exhibition stands make for exciting attractions, where buyers come in search of inspiration and tomorrow’s products.
At the Ideal Home Show, Earls Court, London from 16 Mar-1 Apr, we join forces with Plain English, a cupboard maker.
Both our respective products will, amongst others, make up the interior of the Prince’s Arts and Crafts House (an initiative of the Prince’s Foundation) – a walk around experience showcasing 100% natural products.
Clayworks clay plaster will be the interior finish in the living room and the kitchen.

The ‘moodier’ of the Clayworks clay plaster colours; Dune 305, Stone 603, Slate 904 feature in the March edition of Elle Decor page 192, The Tranquil Bathroom.
Clay plaster is hygroscopic. It’s a breathable material. The ideal wall finish for rooms which experience sudden spikes in humidity, such as kitchens and bathrooms – the clay plaster absorbs, stores and then releases the excess moisture when the RIH (relative internal humidity) levels have dropped back down again. This helps maintain an overall healthy room with less surface condensation. See why clay plaster: healthy homes, healthy people

This is why we love clay plaster.
Here you have a very contemporary look and feel to a popular high street chicken restaurant chain. Design by Harrison
But the feature you can see here at Nando’s Bullring (Birmingham) shop is finished in a material that was first used around 10,000BC. The old furnishes the new.
But further…we’ve just been commissioned by Nando’s again for their Bradford shop and our 7th project with them..and can announce details of a very exciting Sgraffito collaboration with Bill Sargent, a plasterer and pargeter. Bill is one of the best in the world and has been working with the TV programme ‘Escape to the Country’. He’ll be sgraffiting a tree branch stretching 8 metres across a wall in 2 plaster colours and textures.
Can’t wait for a quote from Bill about the variety of his work- he’ll be coming up to Nando’s from Westminster Abbey!

Designed by the reknowned Adam brothers in the 1780′s and well known as one of the commonwealth’s most spectacular houses and estates, Dumfries House in Ayrshire, Scotland was saved from break up by the HRH The Duke of Rothesay (Prince Charles) in 2007. On the verge of being sold alongside with its invaluable collection of Chippendale and British Rococo furniture, it has now been restored to its full glory, and importantly opened to the public.
When you visit Dumfries House, make sure you check out the natural materials adventure playground. Designed and built by Clayworks at the invitation of HRH Prince Charles.
