Do come and say hello to the Clayworks team – Adam, Katy and Chris.

Later this month, we’ll also be represented at The National Homebuilding and Renovating Show, March 29-April 1, at the NEC, Birmingham (0844 581 1375). £10 in advance or £15 on the door.

This week’s Sunday Telegraph tells the story of Clayworks and our position at the centre of what we call “new old” building materials.

“The interesting thing is that owners of old houses come to us, but people who live in completely modern houses come as well,” says Adam. “They want a softer, rounded finish with a slight polish, something which is nice to run your hands over. It is a method which has been used for 5,000 years. It is toxin-free, healthy and breathable.”

March and April are busy periods on the road with a flurry of high profile trade shows. Natural building materials are still in relatively rare supply in the UK – their exhibition stands make for exciting attractions, where buyers come in search of inspiration and tomorrow’s products.

At the Ideal Home Show, Earls Court, London from 16 Mar-1 Apr, we join forces with Plain English, a cupboard maker.

Both our respective products will, amongst others, make up the interior of the Prince’s Arts and Crafts House (an initiative of the Prince’s Foundation) – a walk around experience showcasing 100% natural products.

Clayworks clay plaster will be the interior finish in the living room and the kitchen.

Clay plaster is hygroscopic. It’s a breathable material. The ideal wall finish for rooms which experience sudden spikes in humidity, such as kitchens and bathrooms – the clay plaster absorbs, stores and then releases the excess moisture when the RIH (relative internal humidity) levels have dropped back down again. This helps maintain an overall healthy room with less surface condensation. See why clay plaster: healthy homes, healthy people

This is why we love clay plaster.

Here you have a very contemporary look and feel to a popular high street chicken restaurant chain. Design by Harrison

But the feature you can see here at Nando’s Bullring (Birmingham) shop is finished in a material that was first used around 10,000BC. The old furnishes the new.

But further…we’ve just been commissioned by Nando’s again for their Bradford shop and our 7th project with them..and can announce details of a very exciting Sgraffito collaboration with Bill Sargent, a plasterer and pargeter. Bill is one of the best in the world and has been working with the TV programme ‘Escape to the Country’. He’ll be sgraffiting a tree branch stretching 8 metres across a wall in 2 plaster colours and textures.

Can’t wait for a quote from Bill about the variety of his work- he’ll be coming up to Nando’s from Westminster Abbey!
